Healthspan
What is healthspan?
Healthspan is the part of your life spent in good health. Lifespan is the total time you live. Understanding both shifts the question from “How long will I live?” to “How well could I live those years?”
Lifespan vs healthspan: what is the difference?
Lifespan counts all years lived, regardless of health. Healthspan focuses on the years lived in good health. For example, an imagined 80-year life with 70 healthy years would have a ten-year gap. This is an illustration, not a forecast for you.
Health is not an on/off switch. A person living with a chronic condition may still be active, independent and fulfilled. A single healthspan number cannot capture every aspect of wellbeing.
Is healthspan the same as healthy life expectancy?
Healthspan is a broad concept. WHO healthy life expectancy, or HALE, is a specific population statistic: expected years in full health after accounting for time lived with disease or disability.
HALE does not identify the birthday when someone becomes unwell. 960 uses country HALE references as part of an educational estimate, not a clinical measurement of your healthspan.
How to improve healthspan
Avoiding tobacco, staying physically active and eating a varied, balanced diet are practical foundations for healthier ageing. Sleep, social connection and appropriate preventive care also matter. These habits can support health; none guarantees a particular lifespan.
960 lets you explore changes to activity, strength training, smoking, diet, alcohol and sleep using the same model as your original result. Discuss symptoms, medication and personal risk with a qualified health professional rather than relying on a calculator.
What does the free healthspan calculator show?
Answer five short steps about your age, country, lifestyle and optional health information. Your result shows estimated lifespan, healthy life expectancy, months ahead and the factors the model associates with your trajectory.
The interactive timeline puts those estimates in context. The What if? simulator compares changed habits with your original answers and shows illustrative ranges. Your answers stay in your browser; no account or payment is required.
Can a calculator predict your healthy years?
No. Population averages and lifestyle associations cannot predict an individual future. Genetics, access to care, environment, chance and factors not captured by the questionnaire all matter.
Treat your estimate as a starting point for reflection, not a diagnosis, a deadline or proof that a habit will add a fixed number of years. Our methodology explains the reference data and assumptions.
